Lithium compounds are used as a material for storage batteries as well as for manufacture of glass and ceramics, special lubricants, rubber and plastics. Lithium additives are used for deoxidation, allowing and modification of alloys in metallurgy, lithium-7 is used as an additive to the primary coolant of PWR type reactors to control water chemistry and enhance corrosion protection.
